A classically trained chef who led Team Canada to a top-10 finish at the 2013 edition of the prestigious Bocuse d’Or culinary competition in Lyon, France, Chen won the national 2018 Canadian Culinary Championship crown this past February and was also named Chef of the Year by Vancouver Magazine in 2018, while Boulevard was also singled out as Best Seafood and Best Upscale at the magazine’s prestigious Restaurant Awards.
Chef Bio: Chef Alex Chen
A pedigreed chef, mentor and culinary champion, Alex Chen has led the kitchen team at Vancouver’s acclaimed Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar since its opening in 2014. He has earned numerous accolades, including a top-10 finish at the 2013 Bocuse d’Or, the national Canadian Culinary Championship crown in 2018, and Vancouver Magazine’s 2018 ‘Chef of the Year’. In November 2018 he became the first challenger to best an Iron Chef when he defeated Hugh Acheson on the fourth episode of the inaugural season of The Food Network Canada’s Iron Chef Canada. More recently, Alex helped Boulevard earn the No. 31 spot on the prestigious annual ranking of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants 2019 and back-to-back titles in the Best Seafood and Best Upscale categories at the 2018 and ’19 editions of the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.
