In Thailand, BARN NORK quite simply means “countryside, which is the place we call home”. Appropriately named, this welcoming, casual, “chill” sort of place, is located just on the edge of Mount Currie in a funky refurbished roadside barn. Just 6 minutes north of Pemberton, and only 30 minutes from Whistler. Owned and operated for almost 5 years by Chef O and Chef Fai (Jatuporn Nuttamarn and Chanidaporn Sriwantan a married couple from Chang Mai), Barn Nork brings you a unique and authentic experience of Thai Cuisine.
Rooted in integrity and a commitment to “honest food” both Chef O and Chef Fai originally trained at The Sala Rim Naam, in the iconic Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. After working at The Celadon Restaurant in The Sukhothai Hotel, Chef O then travelled to Slovenia to cook more Thai cusine, until making the journey to Canada. Finally settling together in Vancouver, both gained further experience in a variety of different styles of restaurants throughout the city. Chef Fai continued her training at VCC (Vancouver Culinary College) and graduated in 2016.
From there, and after several trips to Whistler hiking, biking, and skiing, they both knew they were hooked on mountain life! So; with a big dream of opening their own restaurant, a whole lot of faith and just a little bit of crazy, Barn Nork was born!
There are no “bells and whistles” at Barn Nork; it’s all about the food! Incredibly loyal customers from both Pemberton and Whistler (and even Squamish and Vancouver) continue to make the drive to Mount Currie for house specialities like Beef Massaman Curry, Stir-fried Eggplant with Thai Basil, Crispy Pork Belly & Cabbage and Barn Nork’s ever-popular Pad Thai. Never skimping on quality and freshness, Barn Nork is the “real deal” and refuses to compromise on their standards, old school traditions, method and process when preparing every dish.
Hoping to expand one day into Whistler, Barn Nork has carved out a little piece of heaven in the beautiful Pemberton Valley. Currently serving take-out only, 5 nights a week, 5pm to 8pm Thursday thru Monday; with Friday night delivery service to Whistler.
